Performance

Is your Shopify store losing revenue to slow load times?

Slow LCP, app bloat, heavy themes and poor mobile responsiveness create friction before a shopper can evaluate the product. We diagnose the shared technical causes, fix them in staging and measure the result against the same storefront states.

Shugert is a Shopify Select Partner that delivers Core Web Vitals work for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores. Performance Fix engagements usually run 2–4 weeks and range from $2,500 to $4,000 USD. Deliverables include a comparable baseline, root-cause map, staged implementation and before/after validation. LCP, INP and CLS targets are agreed after the baseline rather than guaranteed in advance.

Every request is reviewed with scope, assumptions and the next decision made explicit.

Field evidence · our own site

A shared LCP problem affected 36 desktop URLs: not one bad landing page.

Google Search Console grouped 36 commercial URLs as poor because desktop LCP exceeded four seconds. We treated it as a shared rendering and delivery problem, then documented the diagnosis instead of claiming a result before field data updated.

Starting point
36 desktop URLs in one poor-LCP group; reported LCP above 4 seconds.
Diagnosis
Incomplete edge-cache coverage, third-party work inside the LCP window, and shared template behavior.
Measurement
Search Console's rolling field window plus route-level LCP, INP and CLS events.
Current result
Changes are deployed. Search Console validation is still in progress; no resolved claim yet.

What changed

  • Expanded public edge caching across commercial route families.
  • Deferred non-critical third parties until consent, load or idle time.
  • Kept likely LCP text and images visible before hydration.
  • Added route and element context to web-vital events.

Limitations: Shugert.com.mx runs on TanStack Start and Lovable, not Shopify. The diagnostic method transfers; the implementation details do not transfer one-for-one to every Shopify theme.

When this fits

If your store feels slow, this is usually what's happening

The goal is not a prettier audit. It is a smaller critical path, faster interaction and a release process that keeps the improvement from disappearing after the next app install.

  1. 01

Apps loading scripts on every page

Each app adds tags, scripts and trackers. When several load globally, they compete with the storefront's own rendering and interaction work before the feature is even needed.

  2. 02

Theme is heavier than it needs to be

Bloated JavaScript, render-blocking CSS and unused features can run on every page. The cost accumulates across the templates customers visit most.

  3. 03

    Images are quietly delaying LCP

Oversized hero images, incorrect lazy loading, missing responsive sources and late discovery can turn the first meaningful visual into the slowest part of the page.

  4. 04

Mobile is failing Core Web Vitals

A store can look acceptable on a fast laptop and still fail for real mobile users. We separate lab diagnosis from the field data Google and customers actually experience.

What changes

From the observed problem to a reviewable change.

We improve the parts of performance that customers feel and search engines measure. Every recommendation is tied to an affected route, an observed cause and a comparable validation step.

01

Faster critical rendering

LCP targets based on current field data, representative templates and the constraints of the theme and app stack.

02

Lower interaction cost

Reduce long tasks, global app scripts and avoidable main-thread work that make cart and product interactions feel delayed.

03

Stable Core Web Vitals

Improve LCP, INP and CLS together, then monitor them so one fix does not simply move the problem elsewhere.

What you receive

A decision-ready performance package, not a score screenshot.

Every deliverable answers a business or engineering question and includes the evidence needed to review the decision.

Included capabilities

Here's what we typically do on a performance engagement:

The list describes areas we can implement; the final scope includes only those tied to the observed problem and agreed validation.

  • Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) diagnosis and implementation

  • Lighthouse and field-data targets set after baseline audit

  • Image format, responsive source and loading strategy

  • JavaScript bundle budget and code splitting

  • Critical rendering-path and CSS review

  • Edge caching and CDN tuning

  • Third-party script and app audit

  • Synthetic and real-user monitoring

  • Performance regression checks for future releases

How we work

How we work

Known baseline. Bounded changeset. Comparable validation. No result claim before the data supports it.

  1. 01

You share the store URL, affected templates and current evidence

  2. 02

We establish a comparable baseline and identify the shared causes

  3. 03

We implement the highest-leverage changes in staging

  4. 04

We validate functionality, measure again and document monitoring

Explicit boundaries

Clear ownership makes performance work safer.

We separate the code we control, the systems we coordinate and the outcomes no responsible team can promise before the evidence exists.

01

We handle

  • Theme Liquid, CSS and JavaScript
  • Images, loading and critical rendering
  • App and third-party execution review
  • Staging, QA and comparable validation
02

We coordinate

  • App vendors and external scripts
  • Analytics and consent dependencies
  • CDN, edge and platform constraints
  • Internal release owners
03

We do not claim

  • One Lighthouse score for every user
  • A fixed LCP target before the baseline
  • Guaranteed conversion lift
  • Zero operational risk

Typical investment

Typical investment

Performance Fix ranges from $2,500 to $4,000 depending on complexity. Timelines are usually 2–4 weeks. All work is fixed-scope, with the baseline, target templates, validation method and exclusions written into the scope.

The target is agreed after diagnosis; the evidence is delivered with the implementation.

Performance is often connected to CRO, technical SEO and release discipline. The broader engagement prioritizes those layers together instead of treating every slow page as an isolated ticket.

FAQ

Questions before hiring

Could performance work affect my theme or apps?+

Any storefront change can introduce risk, so we work in an unpublished theme, record the apps and customer states affected, and run representative QA before production. We do not remove or defer an app without evidence and approval, and every release keeps a rollback and verification path.

How do I know the result is real?+

We preserve the affected URL, template, viewport, connection and consent state, then repeat comparable lab tests after the change. We also monitor real-user field data over time. Search Console and CrUX use rolling windows, so we report deployment evidence separately from population-level validation.

How long does a Shopify performance project take?+

Most fixed-scope engagements run 2–4 weeks. The exact plan depends on the number of affected templates, the app stack, the baseline evidence and the QA needed before release.

Public-signal coverage

What AI readability means in this scan

The scan reviews public structured data, semantic HTML, factual copy, alt text and FAQ markup that can make a page easier to retrieve and interpret. These signals are useful diagnostics, but they do not determine or guarantee whether an AI platform will surface or cite the store.
